About Vectorworks Sail
Vectorworks Sail is a focus within Vectorworks
Marine to develop and build sail powered marine vessels.
Vectorworks Marine (VMI) came about as the collaboration of Composite
Structures Inc. (CSI) and Vectorworks Inc. (VI). CSI originally
formed in Omaha, Nebraska in 1993, quickly grew to be one of the
most advanced mid-sized composite manufacturers in the United States.
Focusing on the design and manufacture of composites, CSI developed
one of the most comprehensive design, development, and manufacturing
teams anywhere, including, degreed engineers, CNC tooling capability
and expert mold/pattern makers.
To feed the market’s demand for better performance, reduced
weight and shorter model runs, all at a lower cost, CSI strove to
develop and perfect new processing methods and materials for our
customers’ applications. Computer controlled equipment, Resin
transfer molding, proprietary infusions, rotational molding, were
but a few of the processes utilized at their facility.
Vectorworks Inc., formed in 1991 in Central Florida and in 1994
moved to Titusville. They quickly grew to be one of the most recognized
names in the marine tooling industry. By developing the materials
and techniques to utilize multiple large CNC 5- axis mills, they
pioneered the switch to computer driven tooling in the marine industry.
Techniques for such things as large-scale direct-machined molds,
to greatly reduce the cost of prototyping or low run projects, are
one of the advantages CNC tooling brings, along with improved accuracy
and cycle times. Complimenting their reputation in tooling, VI developed
a team to provide engineering product development and large-scale
lamination.
In late 2001, the principles of VI and CSI recognized the synergies
that could be gained and began the process of bringing the two organizations
together. Building on the core competencies of the two companies,
manufacturing and tooling respectively, creating a complete “virtual
shipyard” would now be possible by expanding to include marine
engineering, navel architecture and private label manufacturing.
Private label manufacturing was set up to bring designs and ideas
to life. This concept is aimed at customers who have a recognized
name or product line, but for a variety of reasons such as location,
cost, or experience, choose not to burden themselves with the complexities
of a manufacturing operation. Our skilled technicians, facilities
and equipment, coupled with purchasing, QC, safety and environmental
support, mean VI can fabricate customer’s design cost effectively
and efficiency. And unlike all but the largest manufacturers, our
in-house engineering, tooling and support is there to help, whether
it is growing new models, coordinating option changes, or just providing
simple mold maintenance.
